WPTouch Pro & Shortcode Problems

I read in one of your other posts that you recommended http://www.bravenewcode.com/store/plugins/wptouch-pro/, so I invested in this tool with the developer pack. However, it turns out that paid or not paid, it doesn't know how to translate your theme's shortcodes for mobile devices. You can see code EVERYWHERE.

If you use your mobile device (I have an iPhone), go to http://www.ondemandmarketing.net and look around - you'll see what I'm talking about. Look at any page, but you'll see it most on the services page and any of the subpages under my portfolio because it does not know what to do with any of the Fancy Images.

I LOVE your themes. But if there is no mobile plugin solution or work-around to this problem, I may have to jump ship because all my clients are now demanding mobile.

The Support Forum on WPTouch says they have a shortcode solution, but it supposedly is only known to work with Elegant Themes (http://www.elegantthemes.com/), who is probably your competition. Please let me know if you have a solution ASAP - I have a client who's chomping at the bit for his Echelon site to be mobile. Thanks!

    Hello Jen6566,

We have tested our framework in iOS devices and didn't see any issues. What device is your client using?

Also, which shortcodes are you using? Something like the nivo slider wouldn't work so well on a mobile due to the screen size.

We are still looking into mobile plugins that we can recommend to make the experience better but we might end up creating our own.

EDIT: One of our customers asked their support about this and they replied saying it should work in the paid version, did you ask their support?

Yeah, I saw that post by your other customer, and my partner followed up in the WPT support forum. The only themes they guarantee the "fix" will work on are the Elegant themes. They say it "may" work to fix others, but no promises. She's going to call their tech support to see if there are any suggestions beyond what's on the WPT support forum.

We tested http://www.nh-home-inspection.com on my iPhone 4S. It comes up, but it takes 5+ minutes to do so - probably because of the Nivo slider on the homepage, as you mentioned. Obviously, people will give up waiting for any site with a 5+minute delay to load on their mobile. I know I would - I'd assume the site was broken or not mobile friendly and move on.

As far as which shortcodes - I'm not using too many on the nh-home-inspection.com site. But on my other MSMW sites, I use them all over the place. Fancy images, image frames, fancy bullets, fancy boxes, drop caps - you name it. And none of them translate via WPTouch.

I've been experimenting with my site: http://www.ondemandmarketing.net - and the shortcodes all show up as CODE on my iPhone 4s. If you look quickly, you might catch a glimpse of it. but my partner is going to take it off WPT in a minute cause it's so bad.

I sure hope you create something soon - mobile is not the future anymore; it's definitely here! :o)

I haven't looked at the WPTouch plugin much yet but perhaps there is a way to create a "mobile" version of your pages?

Once we get our feature update complete we'll be taking a closer look at this.

Yes, that's what WPTouch does. Creates a mobile version of the site. The problem is that it cannot interpret your shortcodes, so it displays them as code on the mobile site. They say they have a work-around, but they only promise that it works with Elegant Themes - no guarantees with anyone elses.

    Thanks!

  6. Hi guys,

I have exactly the same problem. I love the My Site themes, but I also need these to be compatible with WPTouch.

I have the Pro developers license of WPTouch pro and can definitively say that having the premium version does not solve the shortcodes displaying issue.

My clients are also starting to ask for dedicated Mobile versions of their sites, and WPTouch/Bravenewcode are still the leaders in this area. MobilePress is obsolete and doesn't have any where near the functionality of WPTouch Pro. If the mysitemyway themework cannot work with WPTouch Pro, then I think i may too have to jump ship.

I have gone through all of the WPTouch help files, and tried converting the My Site Shortcodes into plugins, but this doesn't work and the shortcodes still are displayed.

I would have thought that it wouldn't take a MySiteMyWay developer very long to convert their shortcodes into Plugins that would enable us to "Add On" these for those of us using WPTouch Pro.

I would really appreciate some help with this, and may even be happy to pay for custom work for a complete fix.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who has had any success with this, or a response from MySiteMyWay regarding resolving this issue that so many of us are having.

    Oh, and happy new year!

  8. I, too, am interested in this topic. I like the MySiteMyWay themes, but need it to work with WPTouch Pro ... right now, it displays the short code (i.e., contact form). Not good.

One solution is to use cForms for contact forms, but I'd prefer to use the native-styled contact forms with the theme.

There was some documentation I thought I found at WPT saying that short codes will work if you copy and paste the style sheets. Not exactly sure what that means or how/where to get the short code style sheets.

  9. @Swanie, I have been through copying and pasting the css, but this doesn't work sadly :(

Gravity Forms also works really well with WPTouch, and is an awesome form plugin, if you know your way around CSS you can add the native styles of your mysitemyway theme to any gravity form as well :)

  10. I too am having the same issues with shortcodes appearing as text on the mobile version of wptouch. I have the inFocus theme. Will there be a mobile version coming soon as I don't want to re-do all of the work I've already done getting my website up and functioning.

When we are finished we will most likely add something in a future update, please be patient.

  12. Yup … I just tried all of BraveNewCode's "Using Shortcodes" WPTouch steps and was unsuccessful: "Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class mysiteContact in /home/intermountain/painfreefootcare.com/wp-content/plugins/infocus_contact_shortcode.php on line 17"

Yeah, I love this theme and will love it even more when this is integrated with WPTouch Pro.

Same problem here with the InFocus theme. Just bought the theme and absolutely love it. This is a big problem for me, since most customers are requiring mobile compatibility. Please put a priority on this issue. Thank you!
