    Hi

I am running Infocus 3.6, but I notice in one of the posts that someone is running version 3.9. What is the latest version, and where can I:-
    - Find the release log
    - Download the latest release?

    Thanks and regards,
    Jana

    Hi Jana,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but no one from MSMW staff have responded to this forum or email contacts for over a year. Don't ask me why they disappeared though...I don't know...I am just another MSMW client like you waiting for MSMW to respond.

I have created a community group for the MSMW open source themes called https://backstopthemes.com but unfortunately this does not include Awake and inFocus since these are proprietary ThemeForest distributed themes.

Because these are proprietary themes you can only legally get them from ThemeForest but ThemeForest has stopped distributing these themes.

Again...sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    Kind regards
    Tim (not from MSMW)

    Hi Tim

Good of you to write and tell me ... thanks. It's a relief to hear from someone about what is going on.

I wrote to Envato Marketplace (themeforest) for support and they were good enough to give me a one-time download of the latest version of Infocus. Of course, it's still 2 years old (out of date), but at least I am now on the latest version that was available.

Well done on making an open source themes community! What's the future of backstopthemes.com? Do you plan to keep the Method and Elegance themes up to date and compatible with new releases of WordPress?

I'd be interested to switching to one of those themes if they are going to be kept up to date/free of security vulnerabilities.

    Thanks again for reaching out.

    Kind regards to you too,
    Jana

    Hi Jana,

Thank you for reaching out :-)

For BackStop Themes future please have a look at my proposed "open" charging model and let me know what you think (You can comment on the issue directly in GitLab).

    https://gitlab.com/BackStopThemes/GeneralIssuesForum/issues/5

If you are looking to switch to a BackStop Theme be forewarned that WordPress Theme switching is not a clean model. There can be a number of quirks to getting a new theme install to look similar to the previous theme. Widgets, for example, don't port. You will need to copy your old widgets and re-create them under the new theme.

You'll probably want to wait for the next BST release for 4.8 compliance (later this week).

There is an ex-MSMW Awake user who is currently trying to migrate to BST-Construct. She is finding this problematic. If you do switch to BST it would be great if you could share your experience. I'll help where I can but I am handcuffed because the Awake and Infocus are proprietary themes so I can't get a copy and create a migration plan without rising the BackStop Themes initiative.

NOTE: If you are not on the BST newsletter you can send me your email address and I will put you on the list:

    admin@backstopthemes.com

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Hi Tim

Thanks for all your efforts in making this available! I have successfully ported MSMW 'Infocus' to BackStopThemes 'Method'. It was, as you said,

not a clean model. There can be a number of quirks to getting a new theme install to look similar to the previous theme. Widgets, for example, don't port. You will need to copy your old widgets and re-create them under the new theme."

It was a fiddly job to get it looking just the way it did in Infocus - quite a few hours of work, but I succeeded. I made notes along the way, as they may be helpful to others.

I need to edit the notes to make them easier to follow, then I will email them to you, so you can publish them or distribute them to interested parties.

As mentioned in your https://gitlab.com/BackStopThemes/GeneralIssuesForum/issues/5, crowd-funding by donations is a good idea to help accelerate your ability to fix bugs and implement enhancements. How can people make a donation?

    Regards,
    Jana

    Hi Jana,

Fantastic news! Your notes would be most appreciated.

With your permission I would like to communicate this to the target audience together. I am serious about visibly growing the community and I believe credit where credit is due. So if you have a brief personal or business profile (your preference) I would like to give you some promotion in the mail-out and in the online edition...subject to your approval of course. No web page or email with reference to you / your business would go out without your approval. And a large CAVEAT-EMPTOR on your notes so everyone understands they migrate at there own risk and should do so carefully with a backup to start.

Regarding crowd funding contributions...that is most generous of you.

My plan at the moment is to finish the upgrade process (OnePressTech underwritten), put in the mechanism for crowd-funded / charged enhancements & support and then market BackStop Themes to grow the community size.

At the moment there are only officially 50 of us die-hard ex-MSMW on the BackStop Themes mailing list. With your instructions and reflection of success in migrating inFocus to Method, I thought we would target the legacy MSMW list of inFocus forum commenters to see if there are any more out there who might want to continue the journey with BackStop Themes. I think we might need a larger community to maximise the leverage of lots of small donations rather than rely on fewer larger donations (which, of course, would always be welcomed with open arms :-).

    Kind regards,
    Tim

    Tim,

I'm have a client site running inFocus and would be interested in @tanyar1's porting experiences and getting on your mailing list. Please advise how I can do this and what timescale there is for publishing Jana's notes.

    Hi Ian,

We will be releasing Jana's (tanyar1) instructions at the end of the month. I'm sure if you send her a private message she would send you a draft copy immediately. Just go up to the tanyar1 icon above and click on "pm this user" just below the icon.

To join the BackStop Themes mailing list just send me an email to admin@backstopthemes.com.

Welcome to the BackStop Themes community :-)

    Cheers,
    Tim
