Using a squeeze page as the homepage

    Hi,

We would like to put up a squeeze page so that the first page a person sees when they go to our site is the squeeze page. After that, we would like them to go to the page that is currently set as the first page people see (the homepage).

I was hoping with the recent update to include a squeeze page template that this would be possible, but I don't see how it is. For instance, if you go to http://incedogroup.com, this is the homepage created using the homepage functionality inside of Method.

What we would like to have happen is to put up a squeeze page, and then redirect the user to the current homepage. However, it doesn't seem like this is possible - whenever we try and change the homepage (using the Wordpress functionality by going to Reading -> Front page displays), if we choose a new page then the content for the homepage is displayed, and the content of the page we wish to display is tacked on at the bottom.

Is there a way around this? It's important that we keep our current homepage, we would just like to put a squeeze page up in front of it.

    Thank you for your help!

    Hello mrsrjp,

You'll need to use some kind of redirect plugin for this, http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/quick-pagepost-redirect-plugin/.

    Hi Elliott,

Yes we investigated using redirects but couldn't figure out how to make it work. If I set up a redirect from http://incedogroup.com to go to http://incedogroup.com/squeeze, then how do I make it so that after they see the squeeze page, they see the homepage? Since the homepage lives at http://incedogroup.com, I can't link there - otherwise it will just circle around to the squeeze page again.

Does the homepage live on another URL?

    Thanks for your help.

What I've seen done before is people will include a "Visit Site" button on their splash page which points to their actual homepage, http://incedogroup.com/.

I've never done this before though and it's not really a theme issue so it would be best to ask on the Wordpress support forums to see what other people are doing, http://wordpress.org/.

Or if anyone has done this before here then please chime in.

    Elliott,

Respectfully I have to ask why this isn't a theme issue. The other themes I've used for other client sites allow us to change the front page display just fine. With this theme, it seems that there is no way to take my current homepage and set it up on another URL (http://incedogroup.com/home for example) so I can set the squeeze page to be the first page displayed when a person goes to http://incedogroup.com.

I also have created squeeze pages with a button that says "Visit Site", but then we would redirect the user to the homepage on another URL (http://incedogroup.com/home, for example). With this theme, it seems that the homepage has to live at the domain root (http://incedogroup.com in this case).

We really like the homepage functionality with the slider, the intro bar, etc. so we need to keep that. I am just wondering how we would set up the redirects to get everything we want. Surely we are not the only ones who've tried to put a squeeze page up in front of this theme. I would be very interested in seeing what others have successfully done.

Thank you for your help thus far, Elliott.

You can edit everything about your homepage in Dashboard -> your theme -> Homepage but getting the slider to display with the squeeze template is going to have to be considered custom work.

As for help with redirecting your URL's it would be best to talk with your hosting provider.

I Know this is an older post but I agree with mrsrjp, overriding the built in wordpress functionality of being able to choose your homepage is a mistake IMO. While I do love these themes and they are great looking. It does not help us if we are forced to use the themes homepage. I love the squeeze page options and look of the elegance theme, yet I need to make it the home page.

Redirecting is not the correct option. Allowing user to utilise the Wordpress option to change the homepage is and As a developer I cannot see how this is a difficult task.

Perhaps you would consider the option of if the wordpress homepage setting is changed from default it will honour that.

Is there any update on this? Having a squeeze page as the landing page for a site is becoming more and more popular. Clients are asking me for this on their sites I've built with MySiteMyWay themes.
