URL PERMALINK AFFECTING BLOG POST APPEARANCE

    Hello,

I have recently found out that one post of my blog does not show up correctly. In fact it was showing like a blank page with the featured image only on the top, but even the image was downsized and not complete. Let's assume for the sake of this discussion that the URL of this post is: myblog.com/problematic-post.

Therefore I went into my blog's admin, and I opened the specific post for editing. Within the editor the post was looking just fine! All text was there, all pictures, my paragraphs, my buttons, everything was fine. So I just re-published the post hoping that it would correct the problem. Unfortunately it didn't.

I then made another test: I have copy pasted the html (and all other data and settings) from the problematic post to a totally new one. I published the new one using the proposed by Wordpress URL: myblog.com/problematic-post-2. Everything worked fine: the post looked great when published, with all the graphics, text, buttons, etc.

So I went on to delete my old post (myblog.com/problematic-post) from within Wordpress in order to make available the URL and then assign it to my new post. So after deleting the problematic one and changing the permalink of the new one from myblog.com/problematic-post-2 to myblog.com/problematic-post and publishing, the post became once more, corrupted. Exactly as the old one.

I did the test several times. When the URL of the blog post was NOT myblog.com/problematic-post, the post was showing fine. When I changed it back to myblog.com/problematic-post, the post was again corrupted.

I would appreciate your help or any ideas on this, since the whole thing is driving me crazy!
Obviously, the reason I want to keep my old URL is because it has a considerable amount of backlinking juice on it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

P.S. I am using Wordpress 3.3.1 and Awake 2.6. The permalink settings of my Wordpress blog are set to post-name.

    Hello Viterbi,

It's most likely something with your permalinks. Paste the structure your using here and send us a link to your post.

    Hello Elliot,

thank you very much for your help!!

It seems that I have just located the problem. I have read somewhere that sometimes a permalink might get mixed up with the permalink of a picture if the name of the post and the picture are exactly the same. As in my case.

The problematic post had exactly the same name with a picture in my media gallery. It was the picture that was displayed in the corrupted version of the post. This picture was not even used within the original post but that didn't make any difference.

Once I changed the name of the picture, the post displayed correctly. That is why when I used to update the permalink of the post, the problem was disappearing.

Once again, thanks for your efforts!!

    Regards,
    V.

Ahh, that makes sense as to why it was displaying as an attachment. Thanks for posting your solution.
