Search oddities

    I have two issues with the search box in Awake.

    I created this post: http://betterchamber.com/?p=332 ... and tagged it with "hotel, motel, inn, accommodations" etc. When I use the search box in the top right corner of Awake, and search "hotel", that post is not returned as a result. Are tags not search-able? If not, is there a way to make this happen?

    My second search issue is that when I search the word "Value" (for 'America's Best Value Inn), it returns several other posts & pages that don't even contain the word Value. I cannot figure out when they are included in the results.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello airrocker,

    By default I think wordpress only searches the post content. There are plugins though that can enable it to search for your tags, see here..

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-everything/

    As for your second issue I am not sure why this happens.. it does it on my personal website also. I type in something like 'lorem' and it will bring up a result with nothing related to lorem. There may be some plugins out there to fix this as well.

    Let us know if this helps airrocker.

    Excellent. Thank you very much Elliott. I will give that plug-in a try.

    I'm having a very similar issue - my searches are finding Categories, Tags, regular Posts and Pages, but ignoring Portfolio Posts.

    The "Search Everything" plugin is only compatible up to: 2.9.3 and doesn't appear to resolve the issue for me.

    Dear Support, can you please confirm whether your own Awake installation searches through Portfolio Posts, or is this something to do with my configuration.

    Hello stubot,

    With Awake the search is designed to exclude results from whatever categories you are excluding from your blog. If you wish to change this and allow all categories to be searched then open up /wp-content/themes/awake/search.php and around line 31 you should see this..

    query_posts("s=$s&cat=$exclude_blog_cats&paged=$page");

    Go ahead and change it like this..

    query_posts("s=$s&paged=$page");

    Perfect, this worked a treat!

    I had looked at that line in search.php, but my understanding of PHP is quite limited.
