    Hi. I want to delete the search field (and icon) from the header/navigation bar. The instructions that refer to other themes don't seem to apply to Elegance. Help? The site is: http://www.spaciousawakening.com. Thanks!

    Hello rcompton57,

    Add this to your custom CSS.

    #fancy_search { display: none !important; }

    Hi Elliott,

    Thank you for the reply. However, what I tried didn't work. Here's what I did:

    1. Went into style.css in wp-content/theme/elegance folder
    2. Found this bit of code:

    /* Fancy Search
    -------------------------------------------------------------- */
    #fancy_search{height:26px;position:absolute;right:8px;top:8px;z-index:10000;}
    #fancy_search form .submit{background:url(images/fancy_search_icon.png) no-repeat center center;border:0;cursor:pointer;float:right;font-size:1px;height:30px;padding:0;position:relative;text-indent:-999em;width:36px;}
    #fancy_search form .text{padding:6px 10px;position:absolute;right:30px;}
    .text:focus{outline:none;}

    3. Replaced the first line with #fancy_search{display: none !important; } AND deleted the rest of the code in that section. So, now I have:

    /* Fancy Search
    -------------------------------------------------------------- */
    #fancy_search{display: none !important;}

    4. I did the same thing with the section under /* Box Shadow, but nothing seems to be changing.

    Q: I assume I'm either not editing the correct file, or it needs to go somewhere else within style.css? Thanks for your help with this. Hopefully the changes that I made are not negatively impacting some other aspect of the site that I'm not aware of.

    Cheers!

    Try adding it in Dashboard > your theme > General Settings > Custom CSS.

    Aha, I get it! Thanks for pointing out where is Custom CSS. A much better way to go. The other method did also work. Although I had refreshed, the page must have been stuck in cache. We finally saw the change. However, I like the Custom CSS method better and will implement that. Thanks again!
