Portfolios on homepage have strange link using infocus 3.0

pending (21 posts) (2 voices)

  1. Hi there,

    With infocus 3.0 I have noticed something odd on the home page only.

    I am using this: [portfolio_grid column="4" showposts="8" cat="home-page-feature" disable="date,visit,pagination"]

    This displays 8 portfolios on my home page here: http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/

    When a portfolio is clicked it shows this URL:
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/portfolio/6-littleport-cottages/gallery/fully-responsive/
    See image as this also shows on the breadcrumb also.

    The odd thing is that the url and breadcrumb is picking up my last 'post' which has nothing to do with this.

    My last post is called /fully-responsive/

    Oddly if the same portfolio is clicked from another page it shows as fine. This only happens with the 8 on the home page.

    This was not an issue with infocus 2.9.

    Any thoughts please?

    Many thanks, Pete

    Hello pete119,

    Let's try the following,

    1. Create a backup.
    2. Completely delete the theme before downloading / uploading a fresh copy.
    3. Deactivate all plugins.
    4. Create a copy of your .htaccess file and then delete it and update your permalinks in Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks.

  3. Hi Elliott,

    I did all of this to get the other issue sorted.

    1. Create a backup.
    2. Completely delete the theme before downloading / uploading a fresh copy.
    3. Deactivate all plugins.

    I don't understand this:

    4. Create a copy of your .htaccess file and then delete it and update your permalinks in Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks.

    Now I can see the htaccess folder on my server. If I copy and then delete this what will this do to my site?
    The site is live so cannot break this in a way I don't know how to repair?

    It's the .htaccess file. It should be in the root of your Wordpress installation. You can rename it to l.htaccess and then update your permalinks.

  5. Hi Elliott,

    Did this and no change. The 8 portfolios on the home page all have this weird url and breadcrumb issue.

  6. Something def not right here and this was not an issue before the update.

    See this link: http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-shop/cromer-and-nearby/

    Click on any and the breadcrumbs go from: Where to shop in Norfolk…
    to
    Home > Where to stay Cromer and nearby > Bond Street Antiques Cromer

    This isn't right either.

    Why have the breadcrumb links been all messed up with this update?

    I have done all you suggested over the weekend. I had to take the site down for most of the weekend to delete and re-upload the theme twice.

    Getting rather worried about this now :(

  8. Elliott,

    For some reason I cannot send this as a DM...

    Ref deactivating all my plugins...

    To confirm I did this when uploading the theme for the 3rd time to see if that was causing issues with this problem 'and' the 'post issue' on the sidebar.

    I have just done this again, deactivated 'all' plugins and checked again. The same issue:
    From the 8 portfolios on the home page have this link:
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/portfolio/6-littleport-cottages/gallery/fully-responsive/
    and the breadcrumbs have the post name displayed.

    Deactivating plugins is not resolving this issue.

    I have done this and also this has no effect:
    Try opening up /wp-content/themes/[your_theme]/lib/shortcodes/15-portfolio.php and add this on line 102,

    wp_reset_query();

    Open up /wp-content/themes/[your_theme]/lib/shortcodes/15-portfolio.php and change lines 255 - 259 from this,

    if( $wp_rewrite->using_permalinks() ) :
    	$url = home_url( '/' ) . 'portfolio/' . $post->post_name . '/gallery/' . $gallery_post . '/';
    else :
    	$url = htmlspecialchars( add_query_arg( array( 'gallery' => $gallery_post ), get_permalink( $id )) );
    endif;

    To this,

    if ( is_home() ) :
    	$url = get_permalink( $id );
    elseif ( $wp_rewrite->using_permalinks() ) :
    	$url = home_url( '/' ) . 'portfolio/' . $post->post_name . '/gallery/' . $gallery_post . '/';
    else :
    	$url = htmlspecialchars( add_query_arg( array( 'gallery' => $gallery_post ), get_permalink( $id )) );
    endif;

    We'll get this added in the next update.

  10. Hi Elliott,

    Yes that has sorted the portfolios on the home page...thank you.

    However check this out please...

    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-go/cromer-and-nearby/
    breadcumb is:
    Home > Where to go in Norfolk… > Where to go Cromer and nearby

    Then click Sheringham Park
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/portfolio/sheringham-park/gallery/cromer-and-nearby/
    breadcrumb incorrectly showing and linking:
    Home > Where to stay Cromer and nearby > Sheringham Park

    There seems no pattern to this, it is happening on many but not all and the categories are all set up the same.

    Any thoughts please? :)

    The portfolio breadcrumbs are going to display like this,

    Home > Page where your using the portfolio shortcode > The Portfolio Post

    So yes, they are working correctly.

    Posted 5 years ago #
  12. Elliott,

    They are displaying and linking wrong, this is what I am showing.

    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-go/cromer-and-nearby/
    breadcumb is:
    Home > Where to go in Norfolk… > Where to go Cromer and nearby

    Then click Sheringham Park
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/portfolio/sheringham-park/gallery/cromer-and-nearby/

    Breadcrumb incorrectly showing and linking:
    Home > Where to stay Cromer and nearby > Sheringham Park

    As this is a link from first link i have sent the breadcrumb should not have 'Where to stay Cromer and nearby'

    It should have:
    Home > Where to go Cromer and nearby > Sheringham Park

    This is happening all over the site. Again not an issue with 2.9

    Create a new page and make sure it is not a child page and then insert a portfolio shortcode there and send us a link.

  14. Hi Elliott,

    Need your thoughts on this as looking into this can see its a new issue to only 2 areas of the site.

    The issue is on:
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-go/
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-shop/

    On http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-shop/
    You then click an area
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-shop/cromer-and-nearby/
    Then click
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/portfolio/bond-street-antiques/gallery/cromer-and-nearby/
    The breadcrumbs from here on aren't right they say and link
    Home > Where to stay Cromer and nearby > Bond Street Antiques Cromer

    When they should be:
    Home > Where to shop Cromer and nearby > Bond Street Antiques Cromer

    The thing is that on 2 of the areas of the site which has an extra layer of navigation, the breadcrumbs work fine:
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-stay/
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-eat/
    These have a slightly more complex nav as they are split into area then options before getting to the portfolio grid.

    Hope your understanding this, sorry trying to explain as best I can.

    Thank you, Pete

    Try deleting the pages and recreate them.

  16. Elliott,

    That's crazy...this worked fine before the update!

    So are you suggesting that I delete each of the main pages 'where to go' & 'where to shop'?
    And the 12 sub pages each of these have?
    (the sub pages remember are the ones where the breadcrumbs are not right)

    So your suggesting I delete 26 pages from my site and recreate them??????

    That's simply not going to happen, if you are suggesting this.

    What are you suggesting I recreate...just to be clear here!

    Posted 5 years ago #
  17. Elliott,

    I have tried to interpret you you said and done this:

    Deleted the page:
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-shop/

    I then recreated it and still the problem persists.

    I don't understand when this page has less children pages to go through to get to a portfolio that the problem exists.

    When you click:
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-shop/

    Then Cromer and nearby
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/where-to-shop/cromer-and-nearby/
    Breadcrumbs are ok to this stage: Home > Where to shop in Norfolk… > Where to shop Cromer and nearby

    Its when a portfolio any portfolio is clicked say, Bond Street Antiques Cromer
    http://www.fabulousnorfolk.co.uk/portfolio/bond-street-antiques/gallery/cromer-and-nearby/
    The breadcrumbs aren't right: Home > Where to stay Cromer and nearby > Bond Street Antiques Cromer

    They should be: Home > Where to shop Cromer and nearby > Bond Street Antiques Cromer

    Now this wasn't an issue before the update and this isn't happening on 2 more complex pages which have far more children pages to get through before coming to a portfolio page.

    This is only happening on Where to Go and Where to Shop pages and portfolios linked from them.

    I have checked all I can. Deleting the main Where to Shop page and recreating it isn't solving the issue.

  19. Elliott,

    Ref the above:

    I have done this ref my response 3 days ago....

    To confirm I did this when uploading the theme for the 3rd time to see if that was causing issues with this problem 'and' the 'post issue' on the sidebar.

    I also...

    Ref deactivating all my plugins...

    This takes hours to do and have done this 3 times now!!!
    The last time there was an infocus update I also did this. I know the process of completely removing the theme from my severer before uploading the new. Have done this!!!!!

    I don't know what else to tell you. This is the first time I've heard of something like this so I suspect it's some kind of customization or weird setting.

    You said when you create new portfolio posts and pages then they work fine? It's just those pages?

    I would try deleting / recreating the pages.

  21. Hi Elliott,

    A year on from when I first reported this, the issue it still persists.

    Every time I update inFocus I have to sort this issue and its not with one site, it's with them all.

    When ever I display portfolios on a home page, when these are clicked the URL displays the last post.

    I have to, every time as per your instructions and change the 15-portfolio.php

    As mentioned this happens on every site we have used inFocus all of which are set up independently of each other.

    Can this issue be addressed please?

    Thank you.
