Portfolio (I think) Question for Podcasts

I'm not sure if this is even a portfolio question.
Please refer to this link: http://blessing.webtemplatemasters.com/portfolio-1-column/gallery/

I'd like to add about 150 podcast episodes (mp3 files) that have different categories (2010, 2011, 2012, guest speaker, multi-part series, etc.). I'd like to click on a page (ex mysite.com/podcasts) and have it bring me to a page similar to the above link where I can click on a specific category (ex 2012) and it would filter out the podcasts with 2012 attached to them.

I'd also like to do something pretty similar with videos as well. What's the best way to go about this? I'm kind of lost with how WP 'handles' media (portfolio, categories, galleries, etc.).

    Thanks much in advance!!

    Hello johnnyp14,

We currently don't have a portfolio filter but it's something we are looking into. In the meantime you might be able to find a plugin that offers this functionality.

I've been giving it some more thought, and I think I can achieve a different desired effect. I'm still a little lost, however.
Please refer to your page here:

I'd like to use that same layout (image on the left, short description, etc. for the posts (podcasts in my case), but I'm confused how the "Categories" section works.
-Can I apply some sort of label/category/something to a specific post and have all the posts appear when that category is clicked?
-Can podcast A appear in multiple categories?
    -Are those 'tags' auto-generated?

Sorry if this is not very clear, or if it is very basic. I basically want an organized podcast/MP3 library where the user can find a podcast that could be in multiple categories.

    Thanks so much!

    Hello johnnyp14,

Yes if you use our portfolios you can add them to multiple categories. The tags are not auto generated.

You can also add them as regular blog posts and use our blog shortcodes to display them as well. This will let them display in the regular archives.

I have created my category structure for Portfolios, but I'm still struggling with how I go about adding each episode so that they show up.

When the users clicks "Media > Podcasts" it will show all the podcasts in date/upload order.
When they click "Media > Podcasts > 2010" it will show all the podcasts under the "2010" category in date/upload order.

Sorry I'm not understanding this yet.

You can set categories in your menu by using the Wordpress menus in Dashboard -> Appearance -> Menus, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Using_Wordpress_Menus.

As for editing the archives you can do so in Dashboard -> your theme -> Specialty Pages -> Archives and you can change the image sizes in Dashboard -> your theme -> Image Resizing.

Maybe I'm not being clear. I do not understand how the portfolio is set up. In the above picture, "Left Sidebar Post Example" and "Full Width Post Example" are what exactly? Pages? Posts? How did you create them specifically? What was the process to get them to show up on that page?

I've made PAGES and given them "Parent Pages" and added them to my main menu at this point. I understand that. I do not understand how to set up a portfolio and get it grouped into categories.

See here, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php/Using_the_Portfolio, for how to use the portfolios.
