Portfolio Basics

  1. I've read through the documentation here several times and still having trouble understanding some of the basics with portfolios. Are portfolios for pictures, posts, pages, or all three?

Can anyone show me how they used them successfully? If I could see how it's been implemented, I think I'd understand how best to setup and use.. Esp vs. gallery or recent posts displayed in a grid.

Perhaps I'm just missing something obvious, but would appreciate any examples of real world use.

    Hello kumveka,

    See our demos, http://themes.mysitemyway.com/elegance/galleries/portfolio-4-columns/.

All of the items on that page are portfolio posts which you can create them by following these instructions, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Using_the_Portfolio.

We displayed them on that page by using the portfolio shortcode, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Portfolio_Shortcode.

  3. Thank you. I've read the docs but I'm unclear on what the advantage of setting up a portfolio is vs. a gallery or grid of posts? The documentation doesn't seem to provide distinctives between them.

I agree with kumveka. I would like to know the definition of a portfolio is and what its advantages.

Are portfolios just a pretty way of displaying blog posts?

The portfolios are a custom post type so they will not display in the archives and they are not searchable. They are mainly used for displaying a category of stuff. For example you could use them to display your web design projects, clients, foods you like to cook, etc etc.

Does that mean galleries are searchable?

If not, do you know how I can create something like a portfolio or gallery that is searchable?

One more thing, I really want it to be sortable by category or tag (like a portfolio) - but searchable :)

You would create normal blog posts then and use our blog_grid shortcode (its the same style but is searchable).
