Pinterest button grabs thumbnail, not full-sized image

  1. I am using the JetPack plugin Sharing buttons. The Pinterest "Pin it" button should grab the full-size featured image to use (../image.jpg), but instead, it grabs the ../image-150x150.jpg. I am using this feature on other WordPress sites using different themes and they work fine. Also, if I use the "Pin it" button in my browser (bookmarklet provided by Pinterest), it works properly, grabbing the full-size image.

    Try it here: http://pilatesforrunners.co/training-fitness/running-form-clinics-september-30th/

    Hello patrick_mcg,

    It must be something with the plugin since the default pinterest button works. Have you contacted the plugin authors yet?

    We also have a pinterest shortcode you can use, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php/Social_Media_Shortcodes#Pinterest, which is the same thing.

    That's not our code, it's a plugin. You'll want to contact the plugin author.

    Or you can use our pinterest shortcode to get a "prompt" for all the images on the page, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php/Social_Media_Shortcodes#Pinterest, just set the prompt = "true" in the shortcode.

    Those are just spans and images. Are you using custom javascript click events to set the links?

    That's not going to work with pinterest.

  8. I'm not using anything other than the theme, or maybe this is something to do with sharethis

    That code is not in our theme, it's a customization done by someone else.

  10. hi, ive pinned it down to "sharethis" - i had added it so long ago i didnt even realise it was there as there is no actual plug in - just a line of code in the header and then the code that appears in the bookmarks.php file - which is why I had thought it was part of the theme.

    my appologies elliott

    It appears to be working fine. It will grab every image on the page and let the user select which one they want to pin.

    You can try adding this to the page,

    <div style = 'opacity: 0'>
    <img src = "URL for fullsize image" />
    <img src = "URL for fullsize image" />
    <img src = "URL for fullsize image" />
    </div>

    To see if it grabs those also.

    @Elliot, Yes it did work if I put that div with the correct original images url on the img tag.

    sorry for taking long to reply, even though it works with setting a div with the original images and opacity to 0 it makes the page really long with a lot white space (since the original images are there with transparency) how can I get the pinterest shortcode to grab the original images without doing the div opacity route? Since this site will have multiple gallery pages and are going to be done by the client with no HTML skills the div transparency wont be a solution.

    Try this,

    <div style = 'opacity: 0 position: absolute;'>
    <img src = "URL for fullsize image" />
    <img src = "URL for fullsize image" />
    <img src = "URL for fullsize image" />
    </div>
