I have no prior knowledge of configuring options on a Wordpress theme.

I Read through some other posts in this forum that raised the same question and I still can't figure out how to set up the Portfolio option to display pictures as they are shown on Themeforest.net

Can you please provide an idiot-proof step-by-step tutorial on how to do this, assuming that the reader is less internet savvy than the designer of this theme?

    Thanks in advance,
    Shaul

    Hey Shaul,

How the portfolio option works is by creating a page and having this page pull your posts and display them based on a category you set.

    1. Create a new page and then select the "Visual Editor" (see attached image #1). When you select the visual editor a small black button will appear (see attached image #1).

    2. Click this button and a popup will appear where you can configure your portfolio options (see attached image #2). Select the post category you want to display in your portfolio and click the "Insert" button. (see attached image #2). When you hit insert you should see a small shortcode in your editor such as this..

    [portfolio cat=20 style=gallery max=9]

This is good, go ahead and save the page.

    3. Next you need to create a new post and set an image URL in the "Portfolio Fullsize Image" option (see attached image #3). Assign the post to the same category you chose when configuring your portfolio settings. Save the post and then check to see if it displays.

Nothing displays in the new page containing [portfolio cat=20 style=gallery max=9]

The new post I created is also blank. Should I insert the actual media in the post in addition to the URL in the Portfolio Fullsize Image?

    Hello creatvproductions,

I see you used the same category in my example.. are you selecting your own category and hitting the insert button? When doing so it will create a shortcode with your category ID.. ie. cat=3, cat=5, etc etc.

Give me WP login details and I will get it setup for you so you can see how it is done.

  7. Hello,
Thank's for this step by step intro.
Seams to work out well for me, but I only get on pictures in my portfolio...

Where exactly and how do I put the links for the rest of the pictures?

Should i put them i in the post linked to the categori like images?

    <img src="http://mystie.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_01.jpg" title="" alt="" />
    <img src="http://mystie.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_02.jpg" title="" alt="" />
    <img src="http://mystie.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_03.jpg" title="" alt="" />

    etc...

or in the page between the protfolio short code?

    [portfolio cat=33 column=4 link=image max=12]
    http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_01.jpg
    http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_02.jpg
    http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_03.jpg
    [/portfolio]

    etc...
or in the "Portfolio Fullsize Image" field with comma between them?

    http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_01.jpg, http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_02.jpg, http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/route/img_03.jpg, etc....

Sorry if this question is stupid...

    Hello Johan,

You will need to create a new post for each picture. If you just want an easy way to list your pictures then you might be interested in the fancy_images shortcode.

If your using awake then see here,

If your using inFocus then see here,

    Hello Tanju,

From your error message it looks like your missing some Wordpress files. Are you using GoDaddys Wordpress install by chance?

    Hello holysparks,

If your on 2.3 then you'll need to use the updated portfolio shortcodes, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Portfolio_Shortcode.

To make it easier it would be best to insert them with our shortcode generator, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Using_the_Shortcode_Generator.

As i mentioned earlier I just migrated from 1.3 to 2.3
I have lots of posts with different categories
And I have a gallery page with the following short code
    [portfolio cat=4 column=3 link=image max=9]

Is there some document which will tells me how to make it work in 2,3
I understand that I have to create a portfolio page and portfolio categories and I even created a short code
    [portfolio_grid column="2" showposts="9" cat="artnotes-and-soulkits,products"]
    But I get this message
No portfolio posts were found for the category selected.

Where do I specify on my posts that this post belongs to this portfolio category?

I'm kind of missing some link in the chain.

    Thanks

    Hello holysparks,

Your previous posts will not work with the portfolio shortcode. You have to create new portfolio items, using the custom post type specifically designed to function with the portfolio.

If you are not sure what I am talking about, take a look at this guide: http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Using_the_Portfolio#Portfolio_Menu

I still don't get it. How do I make my existing posts of category xyz show up in a gallery. Gallery is just page. Before I used this short code [portfolio cat=4 column=3 link=image max=9] in my gallery page to list the image and the title of certain posts.

Can you please give instructions on what I should do, I'm not getting the documentation.

    Thanks

    Hello holysparks,

Sorry there is a current bug where if you define two categories then it will not work. As seen in your shortcode that is most likely the problem,

    [portfolio_grid column="2" showposts="9" cat="artnotes-and-soulkits,products"]

Try using just one category for now until we get this fixed. If your still having issues then PM us a Wordpress login and we'll take a look at your settings.
