MySiteMyWay IS DEAD

MySiteMyWay is no longer answering support forums it seems, you can look back at how long it has been since they have answered anyone's support questions. I have tried to track down "Elliott" and "Rochester" to get more info, but cannot, "Rochester" personal website is no longer active it seems.

I suppose this means they are no longer updating the themes either, which I believe is risky and leave everyone vulnerable. I suppose we could take over the asylum and just answer each others questions.

    Please pass this message along.

Someone has just renewed mysitemyway.com domain until 2017.

Not sure who (they have domain privacy blocking their email address) or why given that no one from the company responds to forum support queries or direct emails. If there is someone actually left in the company they may find they have no clients left by the time they get around to talking to us again.

So I don't get it. They are still selling themes, with the selling point of them being wordpress tested and friendly, etc.... but the themes are riddled with issues relating to wordpress updates because they have abandoned the company? That's a bit fraudulent...

I'm just a normal guy with a couple of personal websites. Does this happen often in the web world?

It's a bit of a head scratcher that's for sure! The company just vanished. Someone renewed the domain name though and the website / forum seems to keep running like a ghost ship...that's just puzzling.

I'll be launching a public fork of the code in 3 or 4 weeks in GitHub. I have a number of client sites using the theme and I like the simplicity and flexibility of the framework so I'll be cleaning it up and maintaining it for my clients for at least the next 6-12 months (longer if I feel I can modernise it without a large investment). Feel free to hitch a ride or contribute if you are interested.

Does this happen often in the web world...yes and no. Open source communities have a better chance of running for a longer time than commercial plug-ins / themes. The former do it for interest and with community contribution in mind, the latter do it for money. MySiteMyWay is in the latter category. The higher quality free WordPress plugins I have used for years continue to show ongoing contribution from the author(s). The paid WordPress plugins I have used over that same period moved into a minimal effort / milk the investment mode of operation after 3-4 years of sales.

  14. Tim,

Thanks for answering some people's queries and spending time to keep the platform alive.

Do you take donations? I have a lot of not-for-profit clients that use these themes and would like to contribute to your efforts.

    Warm regards

    Hi Karl,

Glad to help out fellow MSMW theme users where I can. No need for donations at this time...but thank you for the kind offer :-)

My plan is to manage a fork of the MSMW theme suite as an open source initiative on https://github.com/ testing against new WordPress releases and the plug-in suite I provide as a standard package to OnePressTech clients, fixing any serious reproducible bugs and eliminating any warnings. There would be no charge for this. That's the open source way :-)

Depending on the size and active interest of the community around the forked theme suite, options to address feature enhancements will be considered.

I will put a post on the MSMW forum when it is live and ready for the community. I expect to have it up in 3-4 weeks.

    Kind regards,
    Tim

Cheers Joe. I am looking to run this as a community site so community contributors such as yourself will make the future a reality. I'll provide a base level of management and bug fixing to sustain a LTS support level around a fixed plug-in suite I provide to my clients. Community contributions can then focus on the fun stuff like enhancements and support for other plugins that might be in their deployed systems but not in mine :-)

It might take a few more weeks...I'm just finishing up the GitHub structure, documentation, mailing list and blog.

    Cheers,
    Tim

All of the Mysitemyway themes are vulnerable to the latest attack named 'Ivan' that is based out of St. Petersburg, Russia. Over the past seven days, Ivan has launched over 2 million attacks.

    Hi sandjanice,

Could you elaborate on your reasons for stating that MSMW themes are vulnerable?

If you are referring to the Wordfence article, https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2016/08/profile-russian-attack-ip/ , you should note that this is an attack on an old known vulnerability that was fixed in 2014.

    OnePressTech,

Thank you for clearing that up! I also saw the Wordfence article and was wondering if they were referencing the vulnerability that was patched previously.

I appreciate your work here! Have a great day!

OnePressTech, will you post a link (and instructions if needed for those not familiar with GitHub) to this thread when your open source project is available? Thanks for creating it!

Will do...I'm just running a bit behind on the planned schedule due to some unplanned client work. I am conscious that with WP4.6 there will be renewed interest in bringing the themes up to date.

NOTE: There will be a user friendly web interface for the non-Git members of the community :-)

    Hello All,

I have updated an instance of the Method theme to 4.6 and everything seems to be working normal so far and it has not caused any breaks in the site. Will update further if I notice anything.

  27. Wow @OnePressTech - You're Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for doing what you are doing.

I've built almost all of my client's websites with the MSMW framework between 2012 - 2015 (probably 30 or more sites) so your updates would be invaluable.

BTW, do you or anyone know how to change the Font Color of the Navigation Menu on the Responsive / Mobile site? Right now it's showing up as white on white in the Mobile Navigation Menu and I want it to be legible.

You're most welcome wahkeenasitka :-) I'm doing the work for my clients so I saw no reason not to make the outcomes available to all. If there is still enough MSMW community about we should be able to keep the MSMW themes supported for a very long time. I'm still a couple of weeks away from making the new supported versions of the themes available...clients first...always :-)

Regarding your tweak request, if you can send me a link to the site I can tell you what CSS tweak you require.

  29. Keen to see what you can come up with, OnePressTech -- it's fantastic that you're taking this on and I'm sure a lot of people here will appreciate it. I have three sites using MSMW themes (built before I switched to Genesis and never looked back!) and would really like to be able to continue supporting them. Let me know if I can assist with any testing.

    Cheers,
    Peter.

Hi OnePressTech, I, too, have several sites using MSMW themes. Yikes! Switching all of them to new themes, once I find some that will work, will be a tough job. Please keep us posted about the update work you're doing.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your efforts!

Will do Maureen. I'm almost ready to launch.

Note: Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but a support community can only be created around the MSMW themes NOT the Themeforest-MSMW themes (Awake & Infocus).

    Thanks @intheattic :-)

I expect that if we are going to have a theme that we can rely on long term, we're going to have to maintain it as a community.

I am a managed service provider managing sites for clients so I have an incentive in investing in a long-term strategy to evolve MSMW into a tight, simple, reliable, theme framework. While the market is moving to more complexity with drag & drop themes, I plan on tightening up MSMW with a focus on simplicity and reliability.

FYI - I have been a lifetime investor in Headway, DIVI and Toolset for years and have yet to deploy a client site using any of them. Every time I try to deploy I immediately hit significant bugs that the theme support crew need me to solve. Or the theme is upgraded in a non backward compatible fashion. If I am going to invest in solving theme problems I can't do so with theme design groups that keep racing to be the best in the business with all the flashiest features and an eye on revenue.

Even without support, MSMW themes have been more reliable for me and my clients than other actively supported themes I have attempted to deploy.

My background is 35 years in large scale network design and telecommunications & Internet software architecture. I like simple, reliable, and robust. MSMW round2 will have that as a focus.

Hopefully that is of interest to you :-)

MSMW themes have been a staple and a fall back for me also. Well planned framework and simple to implement options, superb documentation and for all the years it lasted - world class support. The fact that they are maintaining the support forum - which is full of everyone's issues and solutions is still a feather in their cap. I look forward to your expertise (and yes of interest!) moving these themes forward and being a part of the community to keep them alive.
