Linking the Featured Image to the Video so that the video plays in lightbox

When using inFocus 1.6, we had the option of uploading a Portfolio Fullsize Image and a Portfolio Video link. The image served as our "cover image" so-to-speak, and when we clicked on the Image, the video would pop-up in the lightbox and begin to play. I am unable to figure out how to create the same effect with inFocus 2.3. We do not want the default YouTube image to be displayed on the page. Is there any way to link the portfolio video to the Featured Image or to the Fullsize Image for Lightbox so that the Image "covers" the video until it pops up in the lightbox?

    Hello Iguazu67,

If I understand correctly you are using the portfolios and you want an image to display which when clicked on will open your video within prettyPhoto correct?

When editing your portfolio item there is an option called "Portfolio Video Link". When you set the video URL here it will display within prettyPhoto. Make sure that you also set an image in the featured image section.

I followed your instructions. I have an image selected for the Featured Image and I placed the URL for the video in the Portfolio Video Link. The video displays and works properly within the page, but it does not pop-up in a lightbox, nor does the Featured Image display anywhere on the page.

The next thing I tried was to create shortcode from this Porfolio Post and place it in a new Post. The result was more to my liking, however, the image size was limited to "Small", "Medium" and "Large" and none of them fit into the space on the page as cleanly as the Featured Image when it is a standalone. The image is also cropped.

I would like the featured image to display on the initial page as it does when it is a standalone. But, I would like for the video to pop-up and begin playing when that featured image is clicked. Does that make sense?

To get the desired video effect, I discovered that I could insert the video URL in the Image URL of the "Fancy Images" shortcode generator. The result is a generic "Take One" image placeholder at the head of my post. When I click on it, the video pops up in a lightbox. That is what I want, except I would like for my featured image to take the place of the generic "Take One" image. Any ideas?

To get an image to display on your portfolio and when clicked on open up a video in prettyPhoto you need to have a featured image set and a link to your video in the "Portfolio Video Link" field.

If that's not working for you then PM us a Wordpress login and we'll take a closer look at your settings.

    Thank you for your help!

We have them all working now. Not quite like before, but certainly functional.
