Homepage Slider not Rotating

    The home page slider has stopped rotating on all of the following sites utilizing InFocus theme:

    kathleenjones.com
    tustinlegacyrealty.com
    portolaspringsrealty.com

    I read the forum and tried your fixes in Responsive and Mobile section of theme but this did no good. When I have the theme set at "Make My Site Responsive on All Devices" the slider does not rotate. When I set it to "Make My Site Responsive to Mobile Devices" the slider is blank.

    After reading other possible fixes, I also tried putting the following code at the bottom of the functions.php file but this did not help:

    add_action ('wp_footer', 'slider_trigger', 50);

    function slider_trigger() {
    ?>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    !function($){
    jQuery(function(){
    $('#customizr-slider').carousel({interval:5000})
    })
    }(window.jQuery)
    </script>
    <?php
    }

    I have additional slides on all the sites that the slider should be rotating through but it has completely stopped working. Also, tried viewing in different browsers and it does the same.

    What happened and how can I get it working again on all platforms (i.e. mobile, desktop, tablet, etc.)?

    Hi KatKidCA,

    FYI - There has been no site support for about a year. The MSMW team seems to have disappeared. I'm just another MSMW client.

    Regarding your problem I took a glance at http://kathleenjones.com/ and you're getting an error in the JavaScript code you added (it can't find the Carousel function). Remove that JavaScript and I'll take another look (not promising a fix but I will take a look).

    I did a quick scan of your site...are you using the WooThemes Flexslider plugin? If so, is there any reason you don't use the MSMW built-in slider?

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Thank you Tim. I deleted the code I added. No, I'm utilizing the slider that came with the InFocus theme, which is why I contacted support. All of the sliders on all of the InFocus websites have all of a sudden stopped rotating.

    If they are no longer providing support for this theme, it looks like I will need to research a real estate-specific theme that is providing the support needed and just migrate everything over to that.

    There is a bugfix provided by another MSMW client that should do the job. See http://mysitemyway.com/support/topic/wp-45-slider-fix-file-attached-fix-inside . It is a very simple adjustment of two letters in one file.

    The sliders on my client sites are working fine after I made the fix indicated above (see https://lixi.org.au and https://upledger.com.au for examples).

    One of the other clients reported that his sliders work but not the fading slider (http://mysitemyway.com/support/topic/wp-listings-impress-listings-causing-slider-on-homepage-not-to-appear ). Not sure if that is the case or not, I haven't tried the fading slider option in quite a while.

    MSMW literally dropped off the planet about 10 months ago. All attempts to contact anyone at the company through any mechanism has failed. It's like the Mary Celeste of website companies...just drifting along with no sign of the crew. You certainly would not be alone in migrating to another theme.

    FYI - I will be managing a fork of the MSMW theme suite as an open source project in a few weeks. I like the theme suite and have decided to continue to support my clients without a theme switch at least for the next 12 months (longer if a significant community forms around the forked theme). It will be available to all at no charge. I'll post a notice on the forum when it is available.

    Cheers,
    Tim

    I appreciate your help Tim! I tried changing the code in all three sites but the slider is still static.

    Hi KatKidCA,

    You have done your part by removing the code you added and applying the patch I highlighted for you. You're almost there :-)

    Your website http://kathleenjones.com/ is throwing an error looking for the following

    http://kathleenjones.com/wp-content/plugins/spotnil-li-slider/js/load_css.js

    Do you have the spotnil-li-slider plugin installed?

    It has a splashy website at http://www.spotnil.com/envato/codecanyon/li-slider/ but when you press the purchase button http://codecanyon.net/item/li-jquery-sliderimage-rotator/153638?ref=spotnil it says item is no longer available.

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Yes, I have many pages that have Spotnil sliders on them. I've had to change sliders three times now because of non-support, glitching, etc. Very frustrating to say the least. I don't have the time at this point to change them all out either.

    Just looking to get the InFocus sites working properly, or at least presentable again, until I can switch them over to sites that will be functioning properly, and hopefully without too much maintenance.

    I am a real estate broker and need to be spending my time on real estate, instead it seems I'm always fixing errors on my websites.

    Hi KatKidCA,

    I agree businesses should not have to worry about their technology...but someone has to :-) By choosing to go DIY you will always have issues. I manage sites for clients based on a single common WordPress stack (WP + Theme + Plugins) and I have to evaluate and deal with real and potential issues on their behalf on a bi-weekly basis.

    You might consider moving to a managed service like wordpress.com if you wish to focus on your business and not your website technology though it won't guarantee you won't still hit a wall. With a Managed WordPress service provider if there is a technical problem it will still be your issue to get it sorted. For example, one of my clients wanted to do online courses but WordPress.com did not offer the capability and does not allow new plugins to be installed unless you go to their high end service.

    With respect to your current situation you likely don't have a theme issue. You likely have a plugin issue or plugin / theme compatibility issue. Delete the Spotnil plugin on one of your sites and re-enable the MSMW slider. One of the MSMW slider options will likely work now that you have installed the patch.

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Well, that's just is not right. I have spent too much time and money to get (and keep) these sites up and running. Greed has taken over too many companies lately, especially when it comes to technology, and then when you have a problem, it is difficult find the support you need. It is very frustrating, to say the least.

    Thank you so much Tim! I will try disabling the Spotnil plugin when I have a little more time. You have been such a great help! Please keep me posted as to whether you will be providing support in the future... I'm probably going to need it... lol.

    Yup that is the problem. Just deactivated it on all of my sites and the homepage slider is rotating again.

    Also, just counted and I have over 102 spotnil sliders combined on all three sites. Not sure if I will ever have the time to replace all of them with new sliders.

    :(

  13. Thanks OnePressTech, I really appreciate the kind support that you have offered to us orphans.

    The js-min file update that you pointed me to works like a charm with Myriad as well!

    Unfortunately, it didn't fix a glitch that I appear to be having with jcarousel,

    http://zoein-jewels-fine-art-jewelry-gallery/

    Do you happen to work with 10for2? I noticed on that they also provide a managed WP Hosting service?

    I'd like to see your work and wonder if you would be interested in taking on small freelance jobs.

    By, the way my carasol

    Look forward to hearing back from you!

    Thanks again

    You are most welcome Shunyata.

    I don't work with 10for2. They are a different company.

    The link you posted above does not work. Can you double-check and identify what the "glitch" is that you are looking to fix.

    Could you start a new forum topic since it is a different issue to this topic. Cheers.
