Homepage Slider Functionality using Posts

  1. I have implemented a website (www.traditions.com) using inFocus and am interested in migrating to one of your new themes.

We have a retail furniture store and use the Homepage Slider extensively to promote our sales and other events. Many of these sales and events recur periodically. We are generating the homepage slider from posts on our site, so that at the end of a sale, we can easily unpublish the post so that it no longer appears in the slider, but is still stored on our website, so we can easily reactivate it when necessary.

We also use the same post on our Promotions and Events page so that our customers can easily see the sales that are going on (we use one category to specify that the post will be shown on our Events page, and a separate category for the homepage slider). This way, when we publish or unpublish a post, it will automatically appear / disappear from both the homepage slider and the events page.

To make this work properly, we need a little more control over the homepage slider configuration than what is provided for the posts by inFocus and your new themes. In particular, we need the following additional functionality:

    1. We would like to be able to specifically define the text used in the homepage slider, separately from the post text or the post excerpt.
    2. We would like to be able to specify whether or not the Read More button is visible and if so, have the option to specify a specific URL that is assigned to the Read More button and the slider image.
    3. We would like to be able to specify whether a click on the Read More button or the slider image results in the new page being presented in the current or a new browser window.

We have made a minor modification to the inFocus theme that implements this capability. However, we would be interested in migrating to your one of your new themes if this capability were incorporated in the base functionality, so we could simplify our lives by using an unmodified theme.

I would think that these enhancements would have wide appeal. Is there any chance you would consider adding these capabilities to your new themes?

    Hello mikeschumann,

You make some good points here and I agree it would benefit all customers. I'll move this to feature requests and we'll probably see this added in the next update.
