    Hi Everyone,

On 11 Nov 2016 I will be opening the community home for the next generation MSMW themes...BackStop Themes.

Sorry for the delay but there were quite a few steps I had to complete to get the new theme community ready.

    1) MySiteMyWay is a proprietary name that cannot be re-used...thus the new name. Why "BackStop Themes"...because I am tired of themes that are being continuously tweaked or abandoned. I want something simple, attractive and dependable. A backstop is always there when you need it. It supports the game at hand in a quiet, reliable, fashion. Also...all the cool names have been taken by domain trolls :-)

    2) The MSMW themes are 90% identical so I needed to split the themes into a common part and a unique part to simplify support and improve the quality of the theme releases. Then I needed to create an automated process to recombine the parts to reform the theme variations.

    3) We can't expect the MSMW support forum to continue running much longer. I'm surprised it has kept running this long. So I needed to create a newsletter model, and a community environment with a repository for the themes.

    4) I needed to structure the community environment to cater for a techie and non-techie crowd. If you consider yourself a non-techie...rest assured there will be a simple download and auto-update mechanism put in place as a priority.

    Caveats:
    ------

    1) Awake and inFocus will not be available through BackStop Themes. Sorry folks but these are proprietary themes that can only be sourced from ThemeForest and updated by MySiteMyWay (see http://mysitemyway.com/support/topic/awake-infocus-envato-clients-can-you-check-your-license-file-from-envato for more details).

    2) Things are going to move slow for the first few months while the new community settles down. I will be spending a lot of energy on the community infrastructure and critical bugs. Expect issues raised to languish for a few months unless they are critical bugs. Please be patient.

If you are interested in being in the BackStop Themes community send me an email at admin@backstopthemes.com and I will put you on the list.

    Cheers,
    Tim

PS: Yes I do realise that the short form of the new community name is BS Themes :-)

Hi Alexandre…consider yourself on the BackStop Themes list. Welcome aboard 

In response to your questions: will they be on GitHub ? And will they be free ?...

The themes will be free and maintained as an open sourced community. Critical bugs will be repaired at no charge. The evolution of the themes w.r.t. new features and design tweaks will be discussed on an ongoing basis in the community roadmap. The plan is that the themes will evolve at no charge but over time. If enough people want specific enhancements quickly, that would be chargeable…there is only so much volunteer time any community can provide for free at any time.

The themes will be released and managed under gitlab.com and mirrored to github.com. GitLab is a superior open source management environment and one that my company invests time to expand expertise in.

There will also be a simple website interface for the non-techies in the crowd who are interested in the themes but are not interested in the theme software development process.

    Cheers,
    Tim

I'm planning on having a fork of the MSMW themes publicly available on the 11th Nov U.S. time. I need to ensure the theme can be rebuilt successfully and that there are no proprietary components included before I can release this.

  14. What's News?

    The http://backstopthemes.com/ site is parked.

    Patience...patience :-)

I'm doing this for free as a sideline. Although I expect I can handle the workload in a timely fashion once the theme site is up and settled down, this initial setup is a lot of work.

    I pushed the launch out by a week...see http://mysitemyway.com/support/topic/minor-delay-in-release-of-backstop-themes-release-date-now-19-nov-2016.

This forum does not allow me to get people's attention easily when there is a change.

    Regarding the parked website...I'll push up a status page today...good catch...thanks :-)

  16. First off, THANK YOU for the monumental effort of taking this on. I have for some time been worried about what I'm going to do about all my clients using these themes and this endeavor provides a glimmer of hope.

I have just downloaded your version of Modular from backstopthemes.com but am wondering what version your themes are. For example is BT-Modular the same as MSMW v2.8 or have you modified it since? Do you have a changelog for your versions?

You are most welcome @jsperl :-)

The V1.0.2 release is the final version MSMW produced with fixes for WP4.6.1 / PHP7 compliance.

You will find the bulk of the changes at the following link:

    https://gitlab.com/BackStopThemes/FrameworkV1.0/commit/bce28ef8a0ede56b914abf360a29f57a99a6ff6d

Most of the changes were for WP4.6.1 compatibility. The main changes for PHP7 were:

    1) widget classes were not declaring / using a php7 compliant constructor. I adjusted the code to retain php5.4 compliant constructor as well so the software can operate regardless of the php version installed. Constructor order is important if you want to eliminate the php7 warning...php7-compliant constructor first, php5.4 compliant constructor second.

    2) There were a couple of null object instances that needed a null check to catch

    3) $this->$option['type']( $option ); is not parsed the same way in php7 as it was in php5.x. In php7 the equivalent is $this->{$option['type']}( $option ); It is a subtle change but notice the brace brackets.

Additional changes to get rid of WP4.6.1 warnings can be found here:

    https://gitlab.com/BackStopThemes/ModularSkinFrameV1.0/commit/f6e6231406db55f2065b002384ab82beb6d587b9

I am now working on bringing the jQuery up-to-date and making modifications to pass Themecheck criteria.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
    Tim
