Excerpt Question

  1. Hello!

    I recently installed a plugin called "ShareThis" to add social icons to my blog posts. I chose this plugin due it's ease of use and customization. The plugin works fine and does what I want it to, with one exception.

    The plugin places the social icons at the end of every blog post, but it also does the same for the excerpts that are displayed on the main page of the blog. I've contacted the developer of the plugin to see if there's a way to keep the excerpts from showing the icons, but I thought I'd ask here since it may be a simple modification of the inFocus files to get the same result.

    Here's a screen shot of what I'm talking about:

    Thanks!

    Hello Mike,

    I can't find the buttons on your blog page, http://www.itsmygallery.com/blog/, did you get this fixed?

    If not then go ahead and activate the plugin again and we'll give you some CSS to hide them.

    Scroll to the bottom of any blog entry. The buttons are located just above the page navigation links. That isn't the problem, though.

    The problem is what I posted in the screen shot above. Go to http://www.itsmygallery.com/blog to view the 5 post excerpts. They each have a post image along with a couple lines of text from the blog entry. Just below the lines of text are the social icons I am referring to. I would prefer that these icons do not show up unless you are viewing the full blog entry.

    Make sense? Thanks!

    It looks like they only display when the whole page is done loading.

    Try placing this line in your style.css file,

    .st_facebook_buttons, .st_twitter_buttons, .st_email_buttons, .st_sharethis_buttons { display: none !important; }

    I'm not sure if that will work or not though since it looks like they are being inserted with jQuery. Try that out and let us know what happens Mike.

    That didn't work. It got rid of the buttons everywhere. I'm only interested in removing them from the excerpts, not from the actual posts.

    Sorry, try this,

    .hentry .st_facebook_buttons { display: none !important; }
    .hentry .st_twitter_buttons { display: none !important; }
    .hentry .st_email_buttons { display: none !important; }
    .hentry .st_sharethis_buttons { display: none !important; }

    I did think of something today. Let's say I have a certain blog post that I don't want the social icons to appear in. I know inserting the code you provided above into the text area won't work, but is there a way to do it another way?

    Thanks!

    You can switch to the HTML view and add this,

    <style type = 'text/css'>
    .hentry .st_facebook_buttons { display: none !important; }
    .hentry .st_twitter_buttons { display: none !important; }
    .hentry .st_email_buttons { display: none !important; }
    .hentry .st_sharethis_buttons { display: none !important; }
    </style>

    That doesn't work. The icons are still showing. Here's a link to a blog post that I tried the code in so you can see that they're still there.

    Thanks again. Your code worked with one slight adjustment. I removed the plural from "buttons" in the code above and it worked.
