default featured picture

could you maybe hint me where in the source I can add a link to a "default" featured image.

I have imported 700 posts from joomla, now to "upload" all linked in pictures (that reside in an "/image" path) via media-manager is a boring task and not always necessary.

I have not found yet a plugin that makes from the "first linked in picture" of the post a "featured picture" that your blog system accepts for the blog grid / blog list - view.

So I would like to use a "generic picture" as featured image if non is linked in by me to fill the empty space in the list/grid blog layout.

Maybe you add this in the framework for the next update, screening your support forums mails for "featured image" this is a weird WP-Problem that affects more users.

Or do you have an Idea where in the source I can put the function catch_that_image which would solve my and the other forum-askers problem?

the function works perfectly but I dont know on which line in image.php I have to add the reference to it.

    ts a lot

    Hello Heli Retzek,

We do have an "auto featured image" option. http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Image_Resizing

Keep in mind that the images need to be attached to your post.

you name it: your images need to be attached to posts. If imported posts from other systems (e.g. joomla) the images are inside the post but not "linked in" via WP, then your autoimage feature is not working. You have several requests here in the forum, all about the same.

Now: catch_the_image() from above links works beautiful to use the first image of a post. I just couldnt figure out on which line in your image.php I have to add the reference to this function.
Catch_the_image() returns the path to the first-linked-in-image of a post or some default/generic image.

How can I feed your thumb-creator with an image (via catch_the_image) if "autoimage" does not work because nothing is linked in via WP.

This will solve the problem for many users, all asked the same.

What that function appears to be doing is grabbing the first image inside the actual post content. The line your looking for is in /wp-content/themes/[your_theme]/lib/functions/image.php on line 64 but I don't think it is going to work the way you want it to.

I'll move this to feature requests and we'll take a look at in a future update.

Here is a plugin I found which sounds like what your trying to do, http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/auto-post-thumbnail/.

Let us know if that helps.

auto-post-thumbnail only works for new posts or when I add a picture. Then from this picture a thumb is created.

It couldnt create thumbs from existing post/images, maybe partially because the path from which the pictures are drawn is outside the wp-conten/upload
    (I have them under /images)

putting /images under wp-content/uploads and changing the path of <img src="...."> in all posts didnt help for autothumb, just broke the archive function (???) and I had to reinstall a BAK and lost 3 days work, because the BAK Plugin didnt work since the last autoupdate (!!!! oh sh.t !!) as I discovered today.

so I am waiting for your next update implementing the catch_that_image function
