Customizing Header

    I am trying to add some scrolling banners to the Header area. I have read the:
    http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php/Adding_stuff_to_the_header

    I have done both direct code and created a custom widget for the item I want to add. However, in both cases the following occurs:

    1) My sub-menu items are no longer available. I have three sub-menu items under “HOME” and they disappear when the item is added.
    2) The position is too far to the right. I have tried: Absolute, Relative and Fixed. Relative and Fixed the item disappears. The only way I can get the item to display is using Absolute.

    Ideally I’d like this item to scroll when the menu expands or if I add another Social Icon. At the moment, if I add anything such as a Social Media Icon it gets overlayed by the item/widget.

    Any idea on what I’m doing incorrectly? You can view the issue here:

    Hello pcc1224,

    Try surrounding it with this,

    <div style = "position: relative; left: -20px;">

    </div>

    Thanks Elliott,

    This is the straight code I insert into the Header.PHP file.

    <div style = "position: absolute; top: 500px; left: 2px;">
    <script type='text/javascript' src=CONTENT FEED CODE&Interval=7000&width=180px&height=150px'></script>
    </div>

    I have also created a widget that the same thing happens with. When I create the widget I use the following code:

    <div class = "header_widget_area"><?php dynamic_sidebar( 'header_widget_area' ); ?></div>

    Then adding the following code to the Custom CSS in the Theme Dashboard:

    .header_widget_area {
    position: relative;
    z-index: 9999;
    top: 500px;
    left: 2px;
    }

    If I replace ABSOLUTE with FIXED or RELATIVE the item not longer displays.

    Use relative positioning instead.

    When I use the:
    <div style = "position: relative; left: -20px;">

    The item now gets moved to the Top of the header and the sub-menu items are still unavailable. This is not a fix, the slider needs to be below the navigation and below the social media icons and still allow the navigation menu to expand and display the sub-menu items.

    You can see it here:

    Then switch to absolute position and use left -20px. You can move it anywhere you want with the top and left values.

    Thanks Elliot,

    But that still has not resolved the issue with the navigation. As stated in my first post:

    1) My sub-menu items are no longer available. I have three sub-menu items under “HOME” and they disappear when the item is added.

    Additionally, it does not address the issue of having the item move further down once a navigation item gets expanded to display the sub-menu items.

    Your getting some javascript errors. Try deactivating all of your plugins.

    If that doesn't get rid of the errors then it would be best to contact whoever wrote that script your trying to add.

    Thanks Elliott,

    Deactivating all my plugins does not resolve the issue with the navigation. The Script is generated from a MS site. It looks like I will have to look for another theme that will display things properly.

    Thank you for your time.
