Custom background color: how to reset to chosen theme standard?

pending (10 posts) (3 voices)

  1. The title says it all. Some of my pages somehow got set a custom background color of #000000 instead of the theme standard of #212747.

How can I reset it without having to visit each page or post manually? (If it's in the MySQL db table, where can I look for it?)

  2. I am going to answer this question myself, for those who are having the same issue: in your MYSQL database, under the table "wp_postmeta", look for the meta_key "_custom_background". Delete all those records that "erroneously" show a background colour different to that of your theme. I noticed about 10 records where the background was differing from the theme setting. After deleting them, all showed up fine.

  3. Dear Elliott,
I need your help here. I run Awake 2.8 and for some reason, when I create a new post, Awake overrides my theme background colour, although I didn't specifically selected it. So it's not my mistake, but some fluke in the system.

    Hello helmar,

Send us a link to your post and we'll take a look.

  5. The link is not going to help you. You only see the CSS entry in the source code, showing a black background (000000), and that's it. Nothing in the theme points to the black background, but for some reason it is written into wp_postmeta.

So, you would have to check on your side where or when this occurs, because all I can show you is the final output.

PS: Needless to say that I delete the _custom_background records from the table to have it nice and clean.

    Hi helmar,

Does the background color get set to #000000 every time you create a new page?

I tested this on my end and the custom background color remains empty unless something is entered into it.

  7. Yes, it does. I was wondering why this all of a sudden crept up, because it didn't happen before, but now when I create a new page or even save an existing one (page, post), the _custom_background entry is being written into wp_postmeta.

  9. Done that. Any ideas? Just added another post - same issue. Perhaps it's linked to the sidebar, because I always choose a sidebar for the post, and as the background colour is set to black and some changes occurred, that setting gets written into wp_postmeta. Maybe that helps.
