CSS editing and sidebar width question

    Hi Guys,

    Quick question on the best/correct way to do something.

    I'd like to change the sidebar width.

    Following the suggestion in this thread, I tried editing 'custom CSS' under my theme menu, general settings. However nothing seems to change.

    .right_sidebar #sidebar {
      width: 150px;
    .right_sidebar #main {
        width: 700px;

    Instead, I've edited the style.css file, and this works.

    Just wondering out of curiosity why changes under 'custom CSS' don't seem to have any effect, or what am I doing wrong?

    Many thanks!

    p.s. also, changing the style.css file, will this be fine even if there are updates?

    Hello James_Borrell,

    Try using the !important rule like so,

    .right_sidebar #sidebar { width: 100px !important; }

    If you edit any files then they will need to be re-edited after an update.
