Creating multiple galleries

  1. Hi... I'm trying to figure out if this is the right theme architecture for me to use. One of the sites that I'm supporting is a professional photographer site. They need to have the ability to create multiple "galleries", and put multiple galleries on a page / post.

A gallery in my vernacular is a grouping of multiple pictures that can be displayed according to player settings. For example, the gallery might showcase a single very large picture with thumbnail selectors for other pictures below it in a filmstrip fashion. Or it might be a slider, or a grid display of all the pictures in the gallery. Also, the gallery needs to allow multiple pick and upload from a source. And it needs to have drag and drop ordering.

I've looked at the Portfolio post type a bit, and it really seems way too cumbersome for putting pictures into a gallery. Is there another way I should be doing this?

    Hello NormsIM,

We also have shortcodes you can use, fancy_images, image_frames, galleria, jcarousel, nivo, etc etc.

You can find the documentation for them all here,

  3. Thanks Elliott. I'm looking at those other shortcodes also, but I can't find anything that doesn't require putting in pictures one at a time into a "gallery", or manually entering a []xxxxx[/] shortcode bracketing of an image path. I've used other gallery plugins that simply leverage off the standard wordpress gallery tool and replace the standard wp gallery display with a lightbox, thickbox, carousel, etc. That's what I would really like because the WordPress gallery is familiar to my user, simple to use, and they can drag-n-drop to arrange the order.

Is there anything like that in MSMY?

  4. Also, is there anything that would display a gallery at near full browser width? And be liquid or responsive so that if the browser window is resized the gallery images will scale according to the size of the browser window?

It sounds like your wanting a plugin. I would check out the nextgen gallery plugin.

  6. Yeah, from what I can tell the shortcodes in msmy just aren't what I'm looking for. I did find a plugin (Meta Slider) that really does 90% of what I want. I've tried it on a number of other themes and it works great, but for some reason it doesn't display any gallery in the Method theme. For example, I can enable 2012 and it works fine, but when I enable Method I get no gallery. Would you be willing to look at this and try to figure out why Method won't work with it?

Send us a link to the page and paste the code your using here.

  8. It is on a test site at :

Only plugin active is the slider:

If I use wp 2012 theme it works, if I use Method it does not work.

Go ahead and switch to our theme and paste the code your using here.

  10. Sorry Elliott... my bad. I thought I switched it over after taking the video, but I forgot. Anyway, Method is now active.

What do you mean by "paste the code"? I'm not putting in any specific code; I'm just using the metaslider plugin that I mentioned.

How is the plugin adding the slider? It's just automatically adding it to your pages? Usually they have you use a shortcode, etc etc.

Your getting a javascript error from a calendar_monthly.js script that needs to be fixed. Are you sure you have all plugins deactivated? Did you add this script manually?

  12. I installed the plugin, and yes, I do have to put a shortcode on the page. This is what the text tab looks like on the sample-page:

    [metaslider id=2222]

So the process I used was:

    1. Install plugin
    2. Goto the plugin from the admin menu and create a gallery.
    3. Grab the shortcode for the gallery.
    4. Edit a page and insert the gallery shortcode.

Other than that, I'm not doing anything special. I checked and yes, MetaSlider is the only plugin active. I have no idea where calendar_montly.js is coming from. I haven't a clue what it is.

I can give you admin access to this test site if that would help.

Surround the shortcode with [raw] [/raw] tags.

  14. Hmmmm... that worked, but why? I've never had to put shortcodes wraped in [raw] before. And it works fine on WP 2012 theme. I've also searched my entire site for calendar_monthly.js and can't find it anywhere, so I have no clue where that is coming from.

    Here's the page text now:

    [raw][metaslider id=2222][/raw]

The plugin was adding it. It looked like some line breaks were being inserted into the script from our formatter. Surrounding code with [raw] [/raw] tags removes that. We are looking into changing this in a future update to make it more plugin friendly.

  16. Ok, great. Thanks for diving into this and for pointing out the [raw] hack... I'll use that for now.
