Category based listings won't work.

I have noticed that Article listings based on category never work on my site. I have tried several different plugins, and listings based on category are working ok, but When I click a category, it will list all blog articles every time. Always the same thing, no matter what plugin/widget I use.

Any idea what could be the problem?

The category links are in following form for example: http://www.opsec.fi/?cat=25, but it always gives the main blog listing.

    Hello muhove,

By default inFocus will list categories with the archive.php template. If you have your post in multiple categories then it will list posts that belong to the category as well as others. See the following link..

    http://www.opsec.fi/?category_name=tietohallinto

Is the problem that you are listing your categories in your sidebar but they are not displaying your categories correctly?

    Hi there

I'm having the same problem when using InFocus - I have the category widget in my side bar, it views fine (you can see all the categories listed) - but when you click on the link to view the posts in a particular category nothing happens. Actually,, the url changes to reflect the cat id selected but the posts don't sort to reflect the selection. Also, should there be a heading which says something like "all posts tagged for"

Please see http://www.besttyres.com/new/?page_id=15 to see the problem. Do I need to set up individual category templates?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated :)

  6. So this is an 3-year old post but I am finding I am suddenly having the same problem and am showing 28 broken links in a site report I ran.

Has this been fixed in the latest version?? Here are some screenshots that show posts are categorized properly but getting a 404 error page - http://nixonvs.com/category/networking/

  7. There are the screenshots.

Second screenshot was too large but this post http://nixonvs.com/are-you-networking-or-simply-self-promoting/ is clearly categorized Networking. Thank you in advance!!

  8. Even further, with regard to categories, others are off as well. The category BRANDING has 4 posts, but when you go to http://nixonvs.com/category/branding/ it just leads to one of the posts.

    Let's try the following,

    1. Deactivate all plugins.

    2. Delete your .htaccess file before navigating to Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks and then save to see what happens. Your using the /%postname%/ structure correct?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  10. Yes, that's right. I'm using %postname%

Let me save my htaccess and try it. Thanks for the quick response, too.

  11. Weird - I didn't even get around to testing. I just upgraded to WordPress 3.8 - problem solved. ???

  12. Sigh. Thought it was working. Some do and some don't. Tried the Blogging category; it properly shows posts listed in the category in the Admin, but when you click the category in a post, page not found.

Did everything you asked. Now what?

  13. Found the answer finally and ALL categories now work. Switched to default permalinks and then back to %postname%. See WordPress forums for string if needed for anyone else in the future. http://wordpress.org/support/topic/categories-not-working-after-upgrade-to-31
