Is there a way I can change the Featured Image from the default lightbox pop-up to a URL link?
    Thanks, -R

    Hello EyefulPower,

Just to make sure I understand correctly you are wanting to set the featured image of your post through a URL instead of uploading the image?

If so then I do not know of a way to do this. Perhaps Wordpress will include this feature in a future update.

No, I want the Featured Image to link to a URL instead of a larger version of itself. The feature image will be from my media library. Possible?

Are you talking about the featured image being used in the blog page or the portfolio pages?

It's possible to link it to the post instead of having it opening up in prettyPhoto, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Using_the_Portfolio#Link_to_Post.

I'm sorry about not explaining this better. I have several web designs, each are on a blog page. Here's a sample: http://www.eyefulpower.com/2011/american-polar-society

If I use a Featured Image from a large (full page) screenshot of the sample, it get's truncated and cropped oddly (sample: http://www.eyefulpower.com/2011/web-draegers-cooking-school). So I made a custom version cropped specifically for the Featured Image. I would like the rollover link to view the original (non-cropped) image instead of itself (the custom one). Is this possible?

That's a regular blog post correct? If so then I would disable the featured image, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Post_Options#Disable_Featured_Post_Image, and insert my own with the fancy_images shortcode, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Fancy_Images.

If it's a portfolio post then there is an option for this called "Fullsize Image for Lighbox" that you can use when editing the portfolio post.

Thanks, Elliot. There doesn't seem to be a way to target the link to open a new window (even when I tried target="blank" in the shortcode), and it's odd if I use a # for the link because the mouse hovers in an active state. If I use no URL, it defaults to the Lightbox popup - not what I wanted. I ended up just placing the image as HTML and that seems to work.

  8. I am trying to solve this problem as well, using InFocus.

The featured image that automatically appears at top of post is a wider aspect ratio size than the actual image. So like EyfulPower, I created a cropped version that I set as featured image. I have a full version which I want to appear in LightBox.

I go to media and change the LINK URL to the full-size image, but even after saving the cropped URL link reappears in the LINK URL.

Not sure why it's doing this? Disabling feature image, will disable the thumbnail that is used on sidebar widgets, so that's not a good option.

Actually, clicking the disable feature image option will only disable it on your single post view, your widgets and shortcodes will still display the featured image you have set so you can insert your own in the post with the image_frame or fancy_images shortcodes.

  10. okay. That's cool. But why doesn't that LINK URL save when I paste a new link in the field? Seems simpler and more efficient to do it that way, no?

Your trying to switch the featured image through a link? I don't know of any way to do that. Perhaps Wordpress will offer this feature in a future update.

  12. Not exactly. Just trying to change the URL associate with the featured image. It's already built into the current version of WordPress — it's just not working in this instance:

Go ahead and delete the featured image and upload a new one.

  14. Okay. Just did it. And it's wacky. Seems that the original file name defaults even after saving:

Before saving I set the LINK URL to larger uncropped file:

    https://skitch.com/worldrider/83ehi/featured-image

After saving and reviewing file look at the LINK URL:

It's not saving the LINK URL I set for the featured image.

Are you trying to make the image link somewhere? If so then you'll need to do what I suggested here, http://mysitemyway.com/support/topic/can-i-change-the-url-of-featured-image#post-34430.

  16. Not to another page, simply to another image URL. Just trying to pop up a full-size image in the light box.

I see how to do it as a workaround, and if the LINK URL is broken in the media manager, then that's the way I'll do it.

But it's clear there is something broken or conflicting in WP or InFocus as that LINK URL in the media manager doesn't work.

I've never used it before but I don't think it's meant to be used that way. At least not in our framework.
