Blog roll and post widget thumbs no longer showing

    Hi.

    I've just recently moved my site to a different server. The whole account was moved i.e. a backup via cPanel was done and restored onto the new server.

    I only mention this as I can't think what else may have caused the issue I'm having:

    On the blog 'roll' or blog main page here: http://sunstarcreative.ca/blog/ I should have a thumbnails on the left of the title and excerpt. They were there before the site transfer and may have been there after (but I'll be honest, I just did a quick look through the site and may have missed that section). The same thing applies to the post thumbs in any widgeted areas (sidebar and footer)

    I had a backup of the template_blog.php file that I uploaded in case that got corrupted (or something) but it has had no effect on the blog roll and of course, that wouldn't necessarily have any effect on the widgeted area thumbs anyway. I've checked that the image paths for the post image to make sure that they are working (they are). Here an example Post Image (from the theme generated custom fields): http://sunstarcreative.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Picture-201.jpg

    In a nutshell: I'm stumped.

    I can't for the life of me think what caused either of these problems (if they are unconnected) to occur and would be incredibly grateful if anyone could assist.

    Thanks,
    David

    David,

    David, I sortted the permissions, but something is wrong in there. It's probably one of the plugins you are using.

    I should be able to access: http://sunstarcreative.ca/wp-content/themes/awake/lib/scripts/thumb.php But your link leads me to the 404 error page. There are many things that could influence this. It might be either the .htaccess files, a plugin or something wrong with the server.

    Another strange issue that I found while looking on your server, when trying to access: http://sunstarcreative.ca/wp-content/themes/

    Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 27492332 bytes) in /home/ssc8632/public_html/wp-content/themes/index.php on line 96

    My suggestion here would be for you to try a fresh install of awake (latest version, also using Wordpress 3.0.1 as I've noticed that you are still using an older version, 3.0.0) and see if the thumbnails / slider images are there. Please remember to grant 777 permissions to the following file and folder:

    \wp-content\themes\awake\lib\scripts\cache\
    \wp-content\themes\awake\lib\scripts\thumb.php`

    Once you are done with this, let me know if the thumbs / slider images appear or not at all. If they do, then you should trying to disable your plugins one by one and see which is causing this to happen.

    As a sidenote, I think it might be the W3TC browser cache plugin, but I didn't want to touch anything!

    Best Regards,
    Dorian

    Hi Dorian.

    Sorry, I only had our PM open. Thanks very much for looking into all of that. Seems like a bit of a mess. I wonder what about moving server would have caused this as I'm confident that all was well before. I've disabled the W3TC plugin but had no luck.

    I'm going to upgrade the theme and WP as you suggest, so fingers crossed!!

    Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it.

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi Dorian.

    I don't know if I've exhausted any help you can offer but I'm still no further forward.

    I've reinstalled the theme, upgraded WP to 3.0.1, disabled the W3TC plugin, checked the permissions in the directories that you mentioned are 777, systematically deactivated/reactivated all of the plugins in turn.

    The slider images are working fine (but they were anyway)
    The widget areas (sidebar and footer) thumbs are still not showing
    I've just noticed that the Case Studies page large thumbs aren't showing. Just the preloader graphic, spinning. http://sunstarcreative.ca/case-studies/
    Same for the posts that the Case Studies link to: http://sunstarcreative.ca/case-studies/servicemaster-2/
    The blog roll is also still not displaying images. Just the preloader graphic.

    The odd thing is the portfolio is working fine. Of course, I'm assuming that there is some inherent connection with that functionality and the issues in ares in question. The thumbs are displaying and the large images show in the lightbox fine.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again Dorian.

    Hi Dorian.

    I've disabled the widget thumbs, made Case Studies a draft page (unpublished it) and deleted the post images for several posts just so the site doesn't look 'broken' until this is resolved. I just wanted to let you know in case the devs (or someone else) looked into the issue and things seemed different.

    I hope that made sense.

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi sunstardave,
    Thanks for your patience.

    It does look like the issue is with the TimThumb.

    For some reason this file returns a 404 error on your site:

    http://sunstarcreative.ca/wp-content/themes/awake/lib/scripts/thumb.php

    Hi.

    I was just wondering if there was any progress on sorting out this problem. I don't mean to nag, I'm just anxious to get this resolved.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Hi again.

    I see the widget thumbnails are behaving themselves, which is great. Thanks!

    I notice that the Case Studies page and connected 'portfolio' posts are still only showing the preloader graphic. Is this a separate issue that the one that caused the widget thumbs problem?

    Let me know if I can do anything to help.

    Thanks
    David

    I really appreciate the help so far, but I need to know if you are still trying to solve this problem or not.

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi sunstardave,
    Thanks for your patience.

    Using a relative image path instead of an absolute image path resolved your issue, for instance:

    wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Picture-21.jpg

    instead of:

    http://sunstarcreative.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Picture-21.jpg

    Hi

    Thanks for getting back to me.

    I see that using relative links works for image URL's in 'custom fields' but not in the example below, which is in one of the 'portfolio' posts linked from Case Studies:

    [galleria transition=fade height=516 width=882 autoplay=true]
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/1.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/2.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/3.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/4.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/5.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/6.png" alt="" />
    [/galleria]

    I've tried:
    /images/case_studies/sm/6.png
    images/case_studies/sm/6.png
    http://www.sunstarcreative.ca/images/case_studies/sm/6.png
    http://sunstarcreative.ca/images/case_studies/sm/6.png

    but none work.

    Thanks for the help so far.

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi sunstardave,

    Awake's galleria shortcode runs a preg_match_all for any url starting with http://

    I've replaced line #'s 478 - 490 in the following file on your site:

    wp-content/themes/awake/lib/functions/shortcode.php

    if(preg_match_all('#src="([^"]+)#',$content,$matches)){

    	$out .=  '<div id="galleria_' .$id. '" style="width:' .$width. 'px;height:' .$galleria_height. 'px;overflow:hidden;">';

    	foreach ($matches[1] as $img) {

    		$gallery_img = webtreats_image_resize($load_height,$load_width,$img);

    		$out .= '<img alt="" class="noscript" src="' .webtreats_image_resize($img_height=40, $img_width=60, $img). '" />';
    	}
    	$out .=  '</div>';

    }

    This shortcode should now work:

    [galleria transition=fade height=516 width=882 autoplay=true]
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/1.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/2.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/3.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/4.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/5.png" alt="" />
    <img src="/images/case_studies/sm/6.png" alt="" />
    [/galleria]
