Blog Catagory Buttons on Homepage?

  1. Is it possible to create columns on the homepage that show a different blog category? What the client wants to do is have one column that shows the most recent event/post, then the most recent class or education event/post, then a standard column for some mainly static content (volunteer) and a fourth for a donate button (which will also be in a future sidebar).

The code I tried to do is below and the result is here:

    [one_fourth][button link="" size="small" variation="blue" align="center"]Events[/button]
    [blog_grid column="1" showposts="1" post_content="excerpt" category_in="14" disable="image,meta"][/one_fourth]
    [one_fourth][button link="" size="small" variation="blue" align="center"]Education[/button]This is the classes or Education column[/one_fourth]
    [one_fourth][button link="" size="small" variation="blue" align="center"]Volunteer[/button]this is the Volunteer space[/one_fourth]

This is very close but I have two issues. The first being that I can't get the image to be small enough to look like it does on the current homepage which is just showing the usual 4 recent blog posts. If I don't exclude the image it shows across multiple columns.

The other issue is the step down effect of the buttons in each column which you can see on the URL listed above. I have that same step down effect on this page that I am building for another client but only in the fourth column. that site is at (still very much under construction).

    Thank you!

    Hello MichaelAlbany,

If you do this you will need to change the image sizes in Dashboard -> your theme -> Image Resizing and it may look weird when you use them on other pages.

What I would do is use the blog_list with small thumbs and then change the image sizes so they look bigger in a full width layout.

  3. I'll try that later this morning as I am heading out to meet another client at the moment but before I go, any ideas on the stepping of the column heading buttons?

    Examples here:
    and here:

For the first one try surrounding your code with [raw] [/raw] tags.

For the second one you need to change your body text back to a websafe font instead of Cufon.
