Forgive me for being a total newb, but I'm fairly new to using shortcodes. So I need some help. I am trying to create a portfolio page with several galleries.

I can get as far as creating a portfolio and setting up the category and featured image. When I do this, its shows up as a portfolio post with one image. How do I add images to that portfolio. I want to create something that looks like this....

    http://themes.mysitemyway.com/awake/galleries/portfolio-3-columns/

That was the one thing missing from the online documentation... "how" to add images to the portfolio. When I add images to the content area, it gets all screwy. please help

    Hello merrimackandmon,

See here, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Using_the_Portfolio. When creating your portfolio item you need to use the "Featured Image" section. There are pictures in that link above which will show you how.

If your still having trouble then PM us a Wordpress login and we'll get it setup for you.

yeah... i might be retarded but I'm still not getting this. I CAN create A featured image. But that only one image, the cover image. How do I create the gallery will multiple images... and more over, have those galleries multiplied on a page (like your theme example for Awake).

I will PM you my info, but it would be helpful if rather than doing it for me, you could break it down for me like I was a 5 year old. This is totally different than any theme I have purchased to date.

So I THINK I figured this out but I still have a huge "systematic" question moving forward. If I am doing this correctly, I:

    1. Create a post and set the featured image to the image i desire and set the category
    2. Once I have done this and divided up all 150 photos into 150 posts across 30 categogies, I create a portfolio page and set the category for each portfolio gallery which will pull in images based on the category.
    3. Because these are only images and NOT blog posts (Iwhich is where they appear by default) I have to exclude all 30 of these categories from the Blog?

There has to be a better way of doing this. This is so ass backward I still cant wrap my head around why anyone would do this.

All I want to do is feature product images. not upload 15 photos, white the descriptions, them create posts, categories, pull the categories into portfolios and then exclude the categories from my blog.

Am I doing this correctly? Am I missing some sort of "duh" moment or short cut?:

Please help. I'm beginning to think I bought the wrong template.

    Hello merrimackandmon,

When you create a portfolio item you are creating a custom post type so it will not display in the blog with your regular posts.

If you just want to create a gallery without messing with posts then your probably wanting the fancy_images shortcode, http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Fancy_Images.

If you would like me to go in and get the portfolio setup for you then let me know.

Elliott, I am still having some issues. Going back to what I need: I have 5 Products and 5 images for each product. How do I get the gallery page with 5 separate portfolios on one page.

I dont want 5 seperate portfolios with thumbnails all opening lightboxes that only show the featured image for each post. I need an actually gallery that I can divide by product.

Please also dont direct me to the InFocus post asking for something similar. Everytime I tried to recode based on the specs provided I broke alot more than my page.

Is there anything in the theme that does what I have described above?

Go ahead and take a screenshot and highlight the areas so we can get a better idea of what your trying to do.

Here are two screen shots. The first is the Gallery Index PAge, the second a post page (when you click on the post title).

Right now, the Index page shows EVERY image in that category. So if I have 3 products and two images each, the index page shows all 6 pictures. I only want it to show 3, one for each category. So when a Gallery Item is clicked on, it goes to a post containing all the photos relevant to that product.

The second image is of the Post page, which show both photos from the category, which is good. Now how to I do I get this to work for the index page?

In short, I need to this work like an actual gallery, rather than a basic lightbox on the index page that can scroll through photos already on the index page, rather than segmented by post.

Is there a way to keep 5 photos in 1 post? That might solve my problem too.

If you are segmenting your portfolio items by each lamp type then you probably want to create some more categories such as "Lamp 1", "Lamp 2", "Lamp 3" etc etc and then you can create a type of overview page like so,

    <h3>Our first lamp category</h3>
    [portfolio_grid cat="Lamp 1"]

    <h3>Our second lamp category</h3>
    [portfolio_grid cat="Lamp 1"]

    <h3>Our third lamp category</h3>
    [portfolio_grid cat="Lamp 1"]

Let us know if this is what you were wanting merrimackandmon.

Elliott, thanks for the continued help. Using the suggestion above, I created another test page. This doesnt really change anything as the index page is still showing all 6 photos. Its is simply reorganizing how they are displayed on THAT page. (see attached image.

Is there a way to display muliple images in one post and show only the featured image on the index page?

right now it feels like I am going to have to manually create individual thumbnails for each product that links to a completely seperate page for each product (which would feature the multple product images).

There has got to be a better way. I LOVE this theme, but this is a major weakness (albeit the only weakness).

Please help. I have roughly 50 products to showcase and roughly 5 images per product.

The portfolio shortcode will display an image for each portfolio item you have (the featured image). When you view the portfolio item you could then display your additional images about the product. We have galleria and slider shortcodes which you might be interested in for this,

    http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Slider_Shortcodes
    http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Galleria_Shortcode

If that does not help then it would probably be best if you manually created your portfolio page with our [fancy_images] shortcode to however you need it to display.

yeah.... both of those require manual creation of pages, thumbs, links, etc. Kinda negates the ease of use. I'm experimenting with a gallery plugin now.

This would be a million times easier if you could simply categorize the images, and pull the image categories into posts.

i've got a problem. i would create a portfolio page to display all mein portfolio-items from multiple categories.

if i insert the code via shortcode generator
    [portfolio_grid column="4" showposts="12" portfolio_grid="grafikservice"] ... it doesn't work.

if i insert the code like this one
    [portfolio_grid thumb="large" showposts="3" cat="grafikservice"] ... it works, but only with one categorie. if i add a second categorie like this [portfolio_grid thumb="large" showposts="3" cat="grafikservice,it-service"]... it doesn't work.

also if i would display the portfolio-categorie... there is no item... and by searching the item, there is no result.

    whats the problem?

    Hello wbmdesign,

Be sure that all of your portfolio items have a featured image set. To learn more read up on these articles,

    http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Using_the_Portfolio
    http://mysitemyway.com/docs/index.php?title=Portfolio_Shortcode

As for your first shortcode the syntax is wrong. If that is what the shortcode generator is outputting then try downloading a fresh copy of the theme.

As for the second shortcode that is a current bug when using multiple categories. We'll have it fixed in the next update or you can use this as a quick fix, http://mysitemyway.com/support/topic/portfolio-problems-1?replies=3&message=update-support-forums-topic-status-error.

and i've got the latest theme copy (downloades last week)

and there is still the problem that my portfolio categories display no items

This is the full code by shortcode generator with all options i want to use:
    [portfolio_grid column="4" showposts="12" portfolio_grid="webservice,grafikservice,it-service,fotoservice,kommunikation,weitere-services"]

When editing your portfolio item if you scroll down some there will be some options for this such as the "Portfolio Layout" and "Intro Options".

The options you were referring to are available in previous versions of inFocus and Awake.
