3rd Party Blog- Question for Homepage Update

resolved (8 posts) (2 voices)

  1. Hi- I now have a 3rd party (Hubspot) hosting our blog on our website. We want to continue having our blog featured on our homepage; but right now, our original wordpress blog is what Echelon will allow us to display on the homepage.

When clicking "blogic" from our main nav, it points to blogic.idealogicbrandlab.com, which is what I'd like to be able to view from the homepage as well. How/Where do I update this in the code so that it pulls from the correct URL instead of the original WP blog we were using before?

    Thank you!

    Hello rjnetanel1,

You can change your homepage URL in Dashboard -> Settings -> General Settings.

  3. Oh, I know how to do that, Elliot! Perhaps I should explain myself more clearly.
We are no longer hosting our blog through the Echelon Wordpress theme. When we did, its URL was idealogicbrandlab.com/blogic.

NOW, however, we are hosting our blog through a 3rd party company, Hubspot.

Echelon has the option of displaying the blog on our site's homepage. When I choose to display the blog on our homepage, I need to display the blog hosted at blogic.idealogicbrandlab.com. Echelon thinks that the blog I want to display is at idealogicbrandlab.com/blogic. This is NOT correct.

How do I update the code so that the homepage displays the blog from the correct URL?

I'm not sure I understand. When I view, blogic.idealogicbrandlab.com, it seems to be working correctly.

Your saying you have another blog at, http://idealogicbrandlab.com/blogic/, and you want that to display on your new domain?

All of your posts are saved in the Wordpress database. If you want to move to a new server then you need to export the database. See here for more information on moving Wordpress, http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress.

  5. When you look at our homepage, idealogicbrandlab.com, you can see our most recent blog posts displayed at the bottom of the page. But the problem is, those blog posts are NOT from our current blog. The posts you see on our homepage are from the original blog we had, in the Echelon theme, under idealogicbrandlab.com/blogic.

We are no longer posting to idealogicbrandlab.com/blogic. We are posting to blogic.idealogicbrandlab.com (which IS definitely working just fine, so no problems there!).

The most recent post we made under blogic.idealogicbrandlab.com is "What are Buyer Personas?" This was NOT posted to the blog located within our Echelon WordPress theme. None of the new posts that we post can be seen from our homepage because the homepage isn't set to be updated with our new blog posts. It is currently set to display the OLD blog.

I would like to update the settings within Echelon so that the homepage will display the posts made to our NEW blog. The only place I can find to set the blog to be viewed from our homepage is under Echelon --> Homepage --> Display Blog Posts (it's an option that you can check or uncheck).

I need to know how to get the latest blog posts displayed on the homepage to come from blogic.idealogicbrandlab.com INSTEAD of idealogicbrandlab.com/blogic. Do I need to go into the code somewhere to do this, since there's not an Echelon admin setting to point to a custom blog URL?

The theme cannot display blog posts from another server. You can do that with an RSS feed but that's not what our theme uses. Perhaps you have a caching plugin setup and need to clear the cache?

So when you navigate to Dashboard -> Posts you see all of the correct posts but when you visit your homepage those posts are not displaying? Different posts are displaying?

What happens when you switch the theme to the default?

  7. If the theme cannot display blog posts from another server, then that basically answers my question. I'm just looking for a workaround so that the blog posts that are displayed on the homepage are the posts that we're uploading to blogic.idealogicbrandlab.com.

The posts that are currently displaying on our homepage ARE the posts that are in Dashboard -> Posts. BUT those are old posts. We're not posting there anymore.

The new posts we make aren't visible on our homepage because we're posting to the new URL, which is hosted by another server (Hubspot). I really want to display newest blog posts on our homepage, but if we're not using the Echelon blog anymore, I suppose I'll just have to deactivate the option to display to the homepage altogether.

That's too bad. I wish I understood more about coding and development so I could figure this out for myself!
Sorry for troubling you with this, Elliot.

You would have to use an RSS feed shortcode or export your old posts to your new server.

Here is a tutorial on how to export your posts and other content, http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/.
