The General Settings tab has options relevant to the entire site such as logo, favicon, default intro, breadcrumbs, and more.
Contents |
Logo
The first options in the General Settings tab have to do with the logo. If you have the custom image logo option selected then the default logo will display.
To use your own logo make sure the "Custom Image Logo" option is checked. Next click on the "Upload" button and a popup will appear. After browsing for your logo image and uploading click on "Insert this Image" to finish.
In case you do not wish to use a logo you can also display your site title text. To do this make sure the "Display Site Title" option is selected. You can change the site title by navigating to Dashboard -> Settings -> General and filling in the "Site Title" field.
Favicon
A favicon is a small icon that browsers use for your website. If a website has a favicon then you will usually see it to the left of the address bar.
Default Intro Text
The Intro Text is the combination of the page title and a teaser text. The setting you choose here will be used as the default for all of your pages and posts. You can still override this setting on a per item basis while you are editing the specific page or post.
The teaser text accepts shortcodes so feel free to experiment. There is also an option for custom html in case you need it.
The intro text will be different depending on your theme but here is an example of what it looks like with "Elegance".
Page Layout
This is the default sidebar layout that you use for your pages. Let's say that by default you want all of your pages to use a full width layout, you can change that here. You can still override this setting and change the layout when editing your individual pages.
Twitter Username
This is the default twitter username that will be used for all twitter related features. You can still override this setting on a per item basis if you wish.
For example lets say you have 4 authors each with their own twitter account. You would set your companies twitter username here to use as the default and in each of your authors pages you can override the default with their own twitter accounts.
You will want to place just your twitter username. You can find your twitter username by logging into your twitter account and viewing your settings page.
Extra Header Text
The text you place here will display in your header someplace around the navigation or the social icons (depending on your theme). This is usually used for phone numbers, contact info, or something similar.
Cufon
A lot of the theme features such as headings, intro text, buttons, etc etc, will have their font replaced via Cufon. If you do not want Cufon or you wish to use the Google Font plugin then you will want to check this to disable Cufon.
Breadcrumbs
The breadcrumbs display just below the Intro Text. They are links which help the user navigate through your pages. You can choose to disable them here or set the delimiter. The delimiter is the symbol that appears between each link.
Some common examples would be:
> , / - >> // ::
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a traffic statistics service which is invaluable to webmasters. You can sign up for free here, http://www.google.com/analytics/. After setting up your account you will be given some tracking code. Paste it here to use it with your theme.
Custom CSS
This is a great place for adding quick custom styles. Everything you paste here will be included on every page of your site.
The code you add here will automatically be placed within <style>...</style> tags, so don't add those.
Custom JavaScript
This is a great place for adding quick custom javascript. Everything you paste here will be included on every page of your site.
The code you add here will automatically be placed within <script>...</script> tags, so don't add those.
Additional Headers
What you enter here will be added verbatim to your header. You can enter whatever additional headers you want here, even references to stylesheets. You can use this for example to add google fonts to your site.
